EPL: Manchester United confirms signing of Sergio Reguilon
Manchester United have announced the signing of left-back Sergio Reguilon on loan from Tottenham.
The 26-year-old emerged as Manchester United’s first-choice left-back target over the last 24 hours, with the Red Devils cooling their interest in Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella.
After a successful medical yesterday, August 31, Manchester United have now confirmed the signing of Sergio Reguilon. It’s been reported that the club will not pay a fee for Reguilon, while there is no option to make the move permanent during next summer’s transfer window. However, they will pay his full wages.
The Spaniard will be standing in for Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia who sustained injuries that might keep them out of this season.
Speaking to the club website, he said;
“In life you have to be ready for everything and the chance to represent this great club with such an illustrious history is one that I could not turn down.
“Having spoken to the manager, I know what he needs from me, and I am ready to play my part in helping the team to achieve success.
“I know that I can contribute to Manchester United this season; I am ready to fight for this group and show everyone my qualities.”
Reguilon was first linked with Man United in 2020 when it became clear that he would be leaving Real Madrid, but the Spaniard ultimately made the switch to Tottenham.
The full-back has played 67 times for Spurs in all competitions, including 52 appearances in the Premier League, but he spent last season on loan at Atletico Madrid, featuring 12 times.
With six points from their opening three games United can ill-afford to slip too far behind leaders Manchester City, whilst Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool have already made positive starts to the season.
