Police arrest over 100 suspected homosexuals holding gay wedding
The police have arrested over one hundred suspected homosexuals who were holding a gay wedding at Delta State Nigeria.
The police made this disclosure in a tweet on their official Twitter handle on Tuesday. The police said the suspects would be paraded shortly.
President Goodluck Jonathan’s government introduced an anti-gay law in Nigeria in January 2014 which attracts a 14-year prison penalty for anyone convicted of having sex with members of the same sex.
In December 2019, the Nigerian government put the law to the test for the first time when 47 men captured by police in a Lagos hotel the previous year were charged in court, accused of publicly exhibiting affection for members of the same sex.
