EPL: Bernardo Silva signs new contract with Manchester City

Portuguese football star, Bernardo Silva, has signed a new contract with Manchester City that will run until the summer of 2026.

Bernardo Silva was linked with a summer switch away from Manchester City but has ended speculation over his future for now by signing a new deal after his previous terms were due to expire in 2025.

The likes of Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Al-Hilal have all been credited with an interest in Bernardo, but the Citizens were unwilling to sell the Portuguese star for a fee below their £75m valuation.

Commenting on the new contract, he said;

“I’ve had six incredible years at Manchester City and I’m delighted to extend my time here.
“Winning the Treble last season was extremely special and it’s exciting to be part of a squad where there is such a hunger and passion.
“Success makes you want even more, and this club gives me that opportunity to keep on winning. I love the manager, my team-mates and the fans and hope we can share even more great memories in the coming years.”

City director of football Txiki Begiristain added:
“Bernardo has been exceptional during his time at the Etihad, so we’re delighted that he has signed a contract extension with the club.
“His quality and technical ability is fantastic – and alongside his hard work and professionalism, he has become one of the best players in the world.
“Bernardo was so important in our Treble-winning season and we are sure he can help deliver even more trophies in the next few years.”

Silva has established himself as a key player in Guardiola’s side since joining the English team from Monaco in 2017, scoring 55 goals and registering 59 assists in 308 appearances across all competitions, including seven goals and eight assists in 55 games last season.

The Portugal international has won a total of 14 trophies with the Citizens. He was named in the PFA Team of the Year in 2018-19 and Champions League Team of the Season in 2022-23.
