EPL: Chelsea make surprise €20 million offer Deivid Washington

Chelsea are reportedly closing in on the signing of another Brazilian wonderkid, 18-year-old striker Deivid Washington.

Washington plays for Santos in Brazil, a club Chelsea have already done business with this summer. Winger Angelo Gabriel arrived from the club earlier this summer and has featured in pre-season matches for the English club.

In January this year, Chelsea completed a deal for midfielder Andrey Santos, who arrived from Vasco da Gama. Santos has also impressed under Mauricio Pochettino in recent weeks after he was granted a work permit.

Transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano reported that the Blues have bid €15 million plus €5 million in add-ons for the 18-year-old. He added that the player has already reached an agreement on personal terms. Deivid is believed to be keen on the move to Europe and is expected to be loaned to French side RC Strasbourg, the team Todd Boehly purchased recently.

Deivid Washington is expected to join Chelsea in this window from Santos. He has bagged six goals in 22 appearances for the Brazilian side this campaign.

Santos were initially holding out for up to £26m but look likely to accept the Blues’ proposal. Chelsea will be set to pay an initial fee of £13m with a further £4m in add-ons.

The West London club are not the only team to have shown an interest in Washington. Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, and Monaco are among those to have been attracted to the player.

The London side have been extremely active in this transfer window. They have sold close to 15 players, including the likes of Kai Havertz to Arsenal, Mason Mount to Manchester United, and Mateo Kovacic to Manchester City.

They have had a slew of incomings as well, completing deals for French players Axel Disasi and Lesley Ugochukwu. Christopher Nkunku arrived from RB Leipzig after a deal was struck last season, while Nicolas Jackson has impressed since his move from Villarreal.
