EPL: Levi Colwill signs 6-year contract with Chelsea
London-based club, Chelsea have confirmed that defender Levi Colwill has signed a new long-term contract with the club.
The 20-year-old defender signed a six-year deal with the option for a further year to stay at Stamford Bridge.
The England Under-21 international who impressed on loan at Premier League rivals Brighton last term, featured regularly during pre-season under Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino. He was subject to several bids from Brighton, who looked to bring him back to the Amex Stadium on a permanent basis.
During talks which were initially scheduled for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo, the Seagulls tried to include the England Under-21 international in a potential swap deal.
It’s believed that Liverpool also enquired about Colwill on two separate occasions this summer. But the Blues viewed him as untouchable and they’ve managed to tie him down to a six-year deal, fending off interest from Roberto De Zerbi and Jurgen Klopp.
Confirming his new deal with Chelsea, Levi Colwill said;
“It’s always been an easy decision. I’ve grown up, all I’ve known is Chelsea. I’ve spoken with the manager and he’s given me reassurance, that trust I needed. He’s spoken with me not just as a player but as a person. It’s made a big difference.”
Chelsea have been very busy in the transfer market this summer, signing nine players this summer, including forwards Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson.
