Super Lig: Galatasaray makes offer for Thiago Alcantara
Galatasaray has reportedly made a good offer for Liverpool midfielder, Thiago Alcantara, after holding talks with him over a potential move to Turkey.
Galatasaray vice-president Erden Timur reportedly held talks with Thiago Alcantara in England. Turkish publication Fanatik also reported that Timur made a “very good offer” to the Spain international and he welcomed the proposal from Galatasaray.
The report adds that Timur has also held talks with Liverpool to find out the conditions needed to sign the former Barcelona man in this window, though the club’s response is not detailed. Thiago returned to pre-season training with Liverpool on Saturday, July 8.
With the Reds eager to sign a third central midfielder, Liverpool must first offload a number of senior players to raise funds for the transfer kitty, and Galatasaray’s interest in Thiago could be one big avenue in the Anfield side recouping some much-needed capital.
Earning a reported £225,000-a-week, Thiago leaving Liverpool will free up plenty of space on the payroll and give Jurgen Klopp the much-needed chance to replace the 32-year-old with a younger and more suitable player for the squad.
Indeed, whilst there are conflicting reports on whether or not Thiago even wants to leave Liverpool, Galatasaray could be an ideal destination for the midfielder, especially with the Turkish giants qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Galatasaray being back in Europe’s elite competition will be a big selling point for the Istanbul-based side in their bid to add to the squad this summer.
Liverpool paid £20m to sign Thiago from Bayern Munich in 2020 and he has gone on to make 93 appearances for the club, winning the FA Cup and the League Cup during his time in England.
