Retired AIG, Hakeem Odumosu refutes reports he was appointed EFCC Chairman
Hakeem Odumosu, a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), has refuted claims of being appointed the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Odumosu who was reacting to reports that emerged on Tuesday described the circulation of the appointment as fake and urged Nigerians to disregard it.
In a statement on Wednesday, Odumosu denied being aware of such an appointment.
He said, ”Good Morning, everyone, I have been inundated with so many calls and messages between yesterday and today on a purported “EFCC Appointment”. I just want to use this opportunity to debunk this information and say it’s totally untrue.
“This information must have emanated from mischief makers and should be totally disregarded,” he said.
Recall that President Bola Tinubu suspended the former chairman of the anti-corruption agency for misconduct while in office.
In a statement signed by Willie Bassey, Director of Information at the SGF’s office, the EFCC boss’ suspension resulted from “weighty allegations of abuse of office levelled against him.”
Mr Bawa’s suspension, the statement said, was “to allow for proper investigation into his conduct while in office.”
Bawa was subsequently invited by the Department of State Services (DSS) for questioning.
Following the suspension of Bawa, Mr. Abdulkarim Chukkol was appointed as Acting Chairman of the Commission.
