Nigerian celebrity chef, Hilda Baci has officially been announced as the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon after surpassing Indian Chef, Lata Tondon.

After a thorough examination of all the evidence, Guinness World Records has officially confirmed that Hilda Effiong Bassey, widely known as Hilda Baci, has broken the record for the longest cooking marathon (individual), with a remarkable time of 93 hours and 11 minutes.

The 26-year-old Nigerian chef commenced her marathon on Thursday, May 11, and continued tirelessly until Monday, May 15, preparing over 100 pots of food during her impressive four-day kitchen endeavor.

Hilda aimed to set a record of 100 hours; however, nearly seven hours were deducted from her final total due to mistakenly taking extra minutes during one of her rest breaks early on in the attempt.

As per the rules for all “longest marathon” records, Hilda was allowed a five-minute rest break for every continuous hour of activity. These rest breaks could be accumulated if not taken, and they provided her with the opportunity to use the bathroom or rest during the attempt.

The previous record of 87 hours and 45 minutes was set by Lata Tondon from India in 2019. Hilda embarked on this record-breaking journey to “put Nigerian cuisine on the map” and “inspire young African women to pursue their dreams.”
