Douye Diri bio Early Life
Diri began his basic schooling at Okoro Basic School Sampou before transferring to Rev. Proctor Memorial Primary School Kaima, where he graduated with honours in 1977.
After graduating from the Government Secondary School in Odi, he obtained a West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASCE) diploma.
Diri earned his Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) in 1985 after graduating from the College of Education in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State.
Later, in 1990, he got a Bachelor of Education in Political Science from the University of Port-Harcourt in Rivers State.

Career
Senator Douye worked as a teacher in various government schools in rural Old Rivers State before entering politics.
He serves as the Ijaw National Congress (INC), the largest organization in the Ijaw Nation, First National Organizing Secretary.
During the term of Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, the first executive governor of Bayelsa State, he was also appointed executive secretary of the Centre for Youth Development.
During the Goodluck Jonathan administration, he was appointed Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Bayelsa State.
From 2000 to 2012, Diri served on the University of Maiduguri’s governing council.
He was also the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Disciplinary Council in Bayelsa State in 2012.
Douye Diri was appointed Deputy Chief of Staff, at Government House, in August 2012, and a year later, he was promoted to Principal Executive Secretary, a position he held until 2014 when he resigned to run for the House of Representatives seat representing Kolokuma, Opokuma, and Yenagoa Federal Constituency.
In 2015, he was elected. Environmental and communication issues are among his legislative concerns.
He represented Bayelsa Central senatorial district of Bayelsa state in Nigeria’s 9th National Assembly.

On September 4, 2019, he won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election in Bayelsa State, which was held at the Dr Gabriel Okara Cultural Centre in Yenagoa by the Governor Darius Ishaku-led PDP Bayelsa State Governorship Primary Committee.
He was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2019 Bayelsa governorship election.
The Supreme Court of Nigeria declared the 2019 Bayelsa State gubernatorial elections null and void because the actual winner’s running mate, David Lyon, submitted a fraudulent certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission on February 13, 2020. The court issued Diri a certificate of return, making him governor-elect.
On February 14, 2020, he was sworn in as governor of Bayelsa State.

Douye Diri is the spouse of two ladies and a committed Christian. The state’s first lady, Mrs Gloria Ebibomo Diri, and his second wife, Barr. Patience Mrs. Ama Zuofa Douye.
