“Some politicians lost elections because they didn’t have money to share” – EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says that many politicians lost the elections because they didn’t have available money to share.

According to the EFCC, due to the naira redesign policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), a lot of politicians did not have enough cash to share with the voters during their campaigns.

Wilson Uwujaren, Head of Media and Publicity of the antigraft agency made this disclosure while speaking at an event.

According to him, many politicians lost during the elections, because they did not have money to share to electorates. He stated that the naira redesign has been able to prevent corrupt politicians from buying votes.

“The violence during elections was caused by the unavailability of cash which was the CBN’s naira redesign policy because politicians could not buy votes. Some politicians lost elections in their strongholds which could not have happened because they didn’t have the cash to share.” Uwujaren said.
