Cristiano Ronaldo’s partner, Georgina Rodriguez has jumped in to support her man who was benched in Portugal’s Round of 16 match against Switzerland at the 2022 World Cup.

37-year-old Ronaldo was dropped by Portugal’s coach, Fernando Santos, after sulking when substituted against South Korea in the last group match.

Though many feared Santos’ decision could backfire, Portugal were rampant as Ronaldo’s replacement, Goncalo Ramos scored a hat-trick during the huge 6-1 win over Switzerland.

Shortly after the match was concluded, Georgina took to Instagram to defend the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

She also claimed that it was a shame people couldn’t enjoy watching Cristiano Ronaldo for the whole 90 minutes.

Georgina wrote;

“Congratulations Portugal. While the 11 players sang the anthem, all eyes were on you. What a shame not to have been able to enjoy the best player in the world for 90 minutes.

“The fans did not stop asking for you and shouting your name. May God and your dear friend Fernando(Santos) continue hand in hand and make us vibrate one more night.”

Santos has already said his issues with Ronaldo have been resolved. He was quoted saying;

“I think those issues [with Ronaldo] have been solved. I repeat myself from my previous press conference, it is something which is finished and solved.”

Portugal will now face Morocco this Saturday for a place in the semi-finals.
