11-year-old girl dies after being brutalized by guardian in Jos

Police agents in Jos have arrested one Mrs Nnaemeka Nwachukwu, a microbiologist with one of the research institutes in Vom, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State for brutalizing her maid.

According to reports, the Kebbi State-born deceased, who goes by the name Margaret Joshua, allegedly ran away from insurgency in her community before some supposed helper took her to serve in Nwachukwu’s home in Jos.

A source who spoke with Vanguard revealed that the deceased was never enrolled in school by her guardian who indulged in maltreating her daily.

It was gathered that the deceased, in a recent beating, was forced to sit on a bucket of hot water which burnt her bum.

This resulted to her death, as she passed away on 14 November 2022, after being taken to the hospital.

According to Mrs. Grace Pam, the Plateau State Coordinator of the National Human Rights Commission, whose office is investigating the issue, stated that based on the number of scars and bruises on the little girl’s body, her guardians must have torrtuuured her repeatedly while she lived with the family.

In her words;

“Our attention was called to the situation, on Monday, by a staff in the hospital, who said that an 11-year-old girl was seriously beaten and injured by her guardian, in Vom.

The girl had scars and burns on her body. We were told that she was taken to Mandela hospital in Kaduna Vom before she was referred to Jos.

“When some of our staff met with the suspect at the Police Station in Vom where she was detained, she confessed she has been beating her and claimed the girl used to massturrbbate, so she was punishing her so she that could stop.

She claimed she did not know what used to come over her because she felt bad anytime she beats the child.”
