Son Heung-Min breaks new record as he shares Premier League Golden Boot with Mohamed Salah
The 2021/2022 Premier League season came to an end today, May 22 with Manchester City lifting the trophy for the second time in a roll.
However, despite clinching the league title, the award for the highest goalscorers (Golden Boot) went to Liverpool’s winger, Mohamed Salah, and Tottenham’s keyman, Son Heung-Min.
The duo netted 23 times this season. Salah on his part had 5 penalty goals and 13 assists while Son had zero penalty goals with 7 assists.
Son Heung-Min, a South Korean forward broke a new record today by becoming the first Asian player to win the Premier League Golden Boot.
Speaking to BBC Sport, the determined player filled with excitement appreciated his team for the achievement.
He said:
“It’s incredible to have this award,”
“I can’t believe it. I got really emotional. I dreamed of it as a child. Literally it’s in my hands. I can’t believe it.
“Until my goal I was really frustrated that I missed big chances. I told the players I missed the easiest chances and scored one of the toughest tones. I didn’t give up.
“I wanted to score today. The team helped me a lot at half-time. They wanted to help me, you could see it today.”
Liverpool finished second with only one point behind the leaders, Manchester City, Chelsea third and Tottenham Hotspur fourth. These teams have all secured a spot in the next UEFA Champions League next season.
