Dame Patience Jonathan to forfeit $8.4m -N9.2bn found in her account

Former wife of the President Patience Jonathan has been ordered by the court to forfeit the funds found in her account.

A federal high court sitting in Lagos had Ordered the Permanent Forfeiture Of $8.4mN9.2bn linked to Patience Jonathan to the Federal Government.

The EFCC had secured an interim order for forfeiture of the sums following a motion filed before the court on 20th April, 2018.

October 29, 2018, the EFCC counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, moved his motion for the final forfeiture of the sums.

1st July,2019, the sitting Justice, Justice Mojisola Olaterogun held that Patience Jonathan had failed to show reasonable cause why the funds should not be permanently forfeited.

The funds as claimed by EFCC was suspected to be proceeds of crime pursuant to Section 17 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act, 2006.

Nigerians had took to social media to share their views on this, and many had liken her to the late Abacha.
