Mbappé backs Dembélé’s Ballon d’Or bid, shades former winner Rodri

Kylian Mbappé has expressed admiration for Ousmane Dembélé, who has been in sensational form for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in 2025.

The 27-year-old winger has already scored 22 goals in just 17 games this calendar year, raising talks about a potential Ballon d’Or challenge.

Despite being a contender for the prestigious award himself, Mbappé was full of praise for his former club and national teammate.

Speaking to Le Parisien, the Real Madrid forward described himself as Dembélé’s biggest fan.

“With Ousmane, it is easy. We speak every day. Seeing what he is achieving affects me personally because I know how much he has been criticised and mocked.

“Since the age of 14, I have been his biggest fan,” Mbappé stated.

When asked whether Dembélé could win the Ballon d’Or, Mbappé gave a measured response, referencing past winners.

“The Ballon d’Or? What is a Ballon d’Or player? Is Rodri a Ballon d’Or player for you? I thought it would go to Vini Jr., but in the end, it went to Rodri.

“If I’d told you three months ago, you’d have said, ‘What the hell are you talking about?’” he added.

While Real Madrid’s Mbappé has 31 goals in 44 appearances this season, Dembélé’s red-hot form could make him a serious contender if he maintains his impressive run.
