Man who paid over ₦20m for UK visa charged with fraud as agent listed unknown woman as his wife

A Nigerian man who paid ₦20 million to an agent for UK visa processing has been charged with fraud and risks deportation after discovering that a woman was secretly added to his application without his consent.

He only found out when he attempted to renew his visa.

A viral post on X (formerly Twitter) revealed that the man, Makinde Emmanuel Opeyemi, was scammed by his travel agent.

According to the post:

Makinde sought to further his education in the UK and trusted a travel consultant, Shitta Waliu Aderibigbe, owner of Fanzine Educational Consultants, to handle his admission and visa processing. He paid millions, including ₦1 million as a ‘thank you’ fee, after securing his visa.”

Unknown to him, Aderibigbe fraudulently listed Dolapo Afusat Yusuf—allegedly his side chick—as Makinde’s dependent spouse. This only came to light when Makinde attempted to renew his visa and bring his actual partner over.”

“The UK Home Office asked for his ‘wife’s’ details, leaving him shocked. He denied having a wife, but officials presented documents proving otherwise—documents he had never seen. The forged marriage records were so convincing that UK authorities accepted them, leading to his student visa being revoked and an investigation into alleged immigration fraud.”

“Since October 2024, Makinde has been unemployed after losing his job due to the visa issue. He has spent over £20,000 on legal fees to prove his innocence and avoid imprisonment. Despite following due process, he now faces deportation and possible jail time for a crime he never committed.”

“Back in Nigeria, Aderibigbe was reported to the Nigerian Police Headquarters in Abuja and arrested. However, he allegedly bribed his way out and remains free while his victim suffers.”

“How did Aderibigbe forge marriage documents so well that UK authorities believed them? What if Dolapo Afusat Yusuf had committed a crime in the UK—would Makinde be held responsible? Why is the real fraudster still free while Makinde’s life is in ruins?”

“Makinde is now battling severe depression and suicidal thoughts. His education, career, and future have been stolen, while the fraudster continues to evade justice.”
