Atiku Abubakar hails Lagos corper amid controversy over viral video

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has weighed in on the controversy surrounding Lagos-based corps member Ushie Uguamaye, popularly known as Raye, after she called out the Tinubu-led government over the rising cost of living.
Raye, currently serving in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos, shared a viral video lamenting the harsh economic conditions in the country.
She highlighted how inflation has made life unbearable and criticized the state of Lagos, describing it as “smelly.” Following the video’s circulation, she alleged that she received threats from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) authorities.
Reacting to the situation, Atiku took to the X platform to commend Raye’s courage, likening her to some of Nigeria’s historical female activists.
He described her as a bold advocate for the people and emphasized the need to support rather than suppress voices like hers.
In his post, Atiku wrote:
“Raye embodies the spirit of a new generation of women who champion the ideals of popular participation and unwavering advocacy in the political sphere. I deeply admire her boldness and wisdom—her fearless resolve to speak truth to power, undeterred by the weight of opposition.
“She follows in the footsteps of formidable trailblazers like Gambo Sawaba, Funmilayo Ransom-Kuti, Margaret Ekpo and countless other women who have stood resolute in defense of the common good. Rather than being met with hostility, Raye deserves encouragement and support.
“She is a shining emblem of the Nigerian youth—a testament to the long-held promise that the leaders of tomorrow are already among us, ready to shape a better future. -AA“
