Gasperini ends rift with Lookman

Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini moved to dispel any lingering tension with Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman.

This comes after the winger’s goal and substitution in La Dea’s emphatic 4-0 win over Juventus.

Lookman, who had previously clashed with Gasperini over a missed penalty during Atalanta’s Champions League exit, was instrumental in the historic win at the Allianz Stadium.

He netted his side’s fourth goal in the 77th minute before being substituted three minutes later.

Following the substitution, Gasperini was seen exchanging words with Lookman on the touchline.

According to reports, the Atalanta boss said: “Can I give you a hug? Can you give me a nice smile?”

The brief exchange ended in a warm embrace, reportedly ending any tension between the two.

Lookman’s recent form has been crucial for Atalanta, with the reigning African Player of the Year now tallying 25 goal contributions (18 goals, 7 assists) in 31 matches across all competitions this season.

The victory over Juventus marked Atalanta’s biggest-ever win at the Allianz Stadium and the Bianconeri’s worst home defeat since 1967.
