Balogun talks tough ahead of Fenerbahce clash after Rangers defeat to Motherwell

Leon Balogun is positive about Rangers chances against Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce in the Europa League, despite the Scottish side suffering 2-1 defeat to Motherwell.

The Super Eagles star claims Rangers can rediscover their form when they face Fenerbahce in the Europa League last-16 first leg in Turkey on Thursday.

The Light Blues are reeling from a 2-1 home defeat to Motherwell in Barry Ferguson’s first home game as interim boss.

The result marked their third successive Ibrox loss for the first time since 2012, leaving them 16 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race.

Balogun, who came on at halftime against Motherwell, reflected on his past encounter with Mourinho.

“I think I played against him only once, on my Premier League debut. We beat his Manchester United side 3-2 with Brighton. That’s a fond memory.”

Despite his admiration for the Portuguese tactician, the 36-year-old defender believes Rangers must use Thursday’s game as a turning point.

“It’s a big opportunity for us. Maybe playing the first leg away helps after what happened domestically. We need to take at least two massive steps forward to get a result,” Balogun said.
