Amorim backs Maguire for England return after pick of form

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim believes Harry Maguire deserves an England recall, praising the defender’s leadership and improved performances this season.
Maguire, who has 64 international caps, was a notable absentee from England’s Euro 2024 squad.
In his absence the Three Lions finished runners-up after losing 2-1 to Spain in the final.
However, the 31-year-old has been key for United, scoring crucial goals against Leicester City in the FA Cup and Ipswich Town in the Premier League.
With Thomas Tuchel set to name his first England squad since replacing Gareth Southgate in October, speculation over Maguire’s potential return is growing.
“If it’s enough is with the national coach. I would be really happy for him, I think he deserves [it],” Amorim said ahead of United’s FA Cup fifth-round tie against Fulham.
The United boss also highlighted Maguire’s growing influence. “He is a great guy. He still needs to improve, as every player does, but his performances are quite good.
“You feel he is more of a leader now, and that can help a national team,” he added.
