Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has hit back at club legend Paul Scholes, branding him “unfortunate” after questioning his commitment to United.
The clash began after Scholes questioned Martinez’s quality, stating on The Overlap Fan Debate:
“Even when he’s fit, he’s not good enough to win the Premier League.”
The injured Argentine centre-back, who recently suffered an ACL injury and is set to miss the rest of the season, did not take the comments lightly.
Responding on Instagram, he wrote: “This jinx guy is really hurting… You put him in Argentina, and he wouldn’t survive.”
Scholes’ criticism extended beyond Martinez, as he also dismissed Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro, questioning whether either player is good enough to help United challenge for the title.
Speaking on De Ligt, who joined from Bayern Munich, Scholes said: “Not really. Where are your ambitions? I’m talking about getting a team to win the Premier League.”
On Yoro, he added: “He’s a young player, but I haven’t liked what I’ve seen so far.”
United’s 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace has left them 13th in the Premier League, piling more pressure on Ruben Amorim.
However, the club remains in contention for Europa League and FA Cup glory as they look to salvage their season.
