Nigerian parents spark debate online after organizing an extravagant surprise birthday celebration for their daughter at her school.
In a viral video circulating on social media, the young girl was moved to tears as her parents arrived unexpectedly with a cake, a money bouquet, a note, and even a trumpeter to mark the occasion.
Her mother, a baker, shared the heartwarming moment on TikTok via her handle, @helescakes, revealing how the surprise was planned.
She wrote, “My daughter was going to school, and she demanded our Fresh2go cake with her favorite flavors to share with her classmates, as the previous day was her birthday and they didn’t go to school.
“Her dad and I, along with two of her siblings, decided to deliver the cake to her in style. 😍 She forgot her mum is the Queen of surprises! 🥹😄
My family and I really want to appreciate everyone that celebrated our daughter on her birthday.”
The video quickly went viral, drawing mixed reactions from social media users. While many praised the parents for making their daughter feel special, others criticized the lavish display, arguing that such grand surprises could put unnecessary pressure on other students whose parents may not be able to afford similar celebrations.
