Businesswoman faces backlash for ridiculing lady who begged for N2K to eat
A Nigerian businesswoman, identified as @Billionaire_dgb on X, has come under fire for publicly mocking a lady who begged her for ₦2,000 to buy food.
The incident started when the lady politely sent a direct message, stating:
“Abeg sorry for disturbing you, can u help me wit 1500 or 2k abeg, make I chop… my side dry. Just try for me pls.”
Rather than ignoring the request or responding politely, the businesswoman lashed out, replying:
“You have never helped me repost my business tweet and I should come and give you money, don’t you think you are mad?”
Shocked by the response, the lady sent a long message, cursing the businesswoman and reminding her of the importance of kindness.
In retaliation, @Billionaire_dgb took the chats to her timeline, captioning it:
“Between I and a beggar. I’m not one of those people that believes giving out money to beggars will make me grow. You cannot offer free things but you want money. @matthewelizzy you will continue to beg till you die, Alakpa.”
Instead of support, the businesswoman received massive backlash for her response. Many social media users criticized her for humiliating someone in need, calling her actions insensitive and unnecessary.
Following the outrage, @Billionaire_dgb apologized, explaining that she was in a bad mood and initially thought the stranger was inquiring about her shoe business.
She wrote, “I was in a bad mood and was happy when I saw a stranger texting me. I thought the person was coming to inquire about shoes, which is why I asked if she was mad. Seeing the long epistle of insults and getting blocked made me bring it to the timeline, which was a very bad thing to do.”
Despite the apology, many X users remained unimpressed, stating that her initial response revealed her true character. She has since locked her account, pending the storm currently
