Lady narrates how violence erupts in Umunede, Delta state after Hausas kill 2 indigenes in the bush
A Nigerian lady has narrated an incident in which violence erupted in Umunede, Delta State, after two indigenes were killed by Hausas in the bush.
The account was shared in a video that has since gone viral on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
In the video, she explained how the violence unfolded in her community following an unexpected act of aggression. She mentioned that the Hausa community in Umunede has its own designated quarter and mosque.
According to the woman, two indigenes from the Mbiri community were killed by Hausas while on their way to farm.
The three people who were traveling to the farm included two Mbiri boys and one Hausa.
The attackers killed the two Mbiri boys but spared the Hausas, who then rushed to inform the Mbiri people about the incident.
Enraged, the Mbiri community members gathered and retaliated by storming the Hausa quarter in Umunede, setting fire to both the houses and the mosque.
The violence didn’t end there. In retaliation, some Hausas from a neighboring village reportedly killed more people. This led to the Mbiri community attacking the Hausa quarter again.
When the Hausa residents saw the incoming aggression, they fled and sought refuge in nearby schools, forcing the closure of schools as students fled for their safety.
The woman also shared her distress in the video, stating, “What happened is that the Hausa people have a quarter in our village, and a mosque. Hausa or Fulani people have been involved in several kidnappings in this area. In a neighboring village, they killed two boys who had recently graduated.”
She continued, “It was three people heading to the farm that day—the two Mbiri boys and one Hausa. The two Mbiri boys were killed, but the Hausa boy was spared because of his ethnicity.”
“It was the spared Hausa boy who went to tell the Mbiri people that the Hausa had killed two of their own.”
“This angered the Mbiri people, and they came to my village, Umunede, where they burned down the Hausa quarter and mosque. But the matter didn’t end there.”
“Today, the Hausas in a nearby village began killing people again, and this led the villagers of the victims to come to Umunede and attack the Hausa community.”
“The chaos led to the Hausa fleeing into schools for safety, causing the schools to shut down as many students ran for their lives. Many mothers have not yet seen their children.”
