Corp member passes away in car crash en route to NYSC camp
A tragic road crash has claimed the life of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member travelling to the orientation camp in Ebonyi State.
On Thursday, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander for Ebonyi, Henry Igwe, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abakaliki.
The crash occurred on Wednesday at about 2 p.m. along Amasiri-Okigwe Road in Amenu village, Okposi, located in the Ohaozara Local Government Area.
Igwe explained that the accident involved a 14-seater Toyota commercial bus and a commercial Mercedes Benz tipper, which sustained significant damage.
“From our preliminary findings, it might have been caused by speeding on the part of the commercial bus,” he stated.
Details about the number of injured individuals and their identities remain unclear, as bystanders in the area carried out rescue efforts.
The injured victims have been taken to David Umahi Federal Hospital in Uburu, where they are reported to be in stable condition.
The sector commander also urged drivers to prioritize caution and obey speed limits to avoid such tragedies.
