Mac Allister: Liverpool players ‘not happy’ despite six-goal thrashing of Tottenham
Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has revealed that the squad was not happy with their defense despite 6-3 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
Mac Allister, one of the four scorers in the nine-goal thriller, highlighted the team’s mixed feelings about their performance after conceding three goals, even as they extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to four points.
Speaking to the BBC, the 25-year-old Argentine said: “We spoke about it in the dressing room.
“We are not happy with the fact we conceded three goals, that’s very clear. But we scored six, that’s not very easy.”
He added that the high-pressing and aggressive style of Tottenham demanded Liverpool’s focus:
“Tottenham are a good team, they press really high, they are aggressive. We knew we had to put the ball in behind and score the opportunities we had.
“We are happy with the result, but there are many things to improve.”
Liverpool manager Arne Slot echoed these sentiments, praising the team’s initial dominance while calling out lapses in concentration.
Slot said, “For 60 minutes, we did everything we had to do. But then the same players with the same quality thought that 10 or 15 minutes of not working as hard was good enough.
“Tottenham have enough quality to score if you give them chances. You have to be on top of your game for the whole match, and we didn’t do that.”
