Chelsea fans criticize James for supporting Mount after new injury
Reece James has faced backlash from a section of the club’s fanbase after showing public support for his former teammate, Mason Mount.
This follows Mount’s latest injury setback at Manchester United.
The midfielder, who departed Chelsea for United last summer in a move that angered many Blues fans, was forced off the pitch just 12 minutes into the Manchester derby.
Chelsea captain James, sharing his own struggles with injuries, took to Instagram to offer encouragement, writing:
“Not many people understand what you’re going through, but I have lived disappointment after disappointment.
“It’s real tough and lonely, man! Speedy recovery and stay strong, brother! I have 0 doubts you’ll be back to your best!”
While the message reflected camaraderie and empathy, some Chelsea fans were quick to turn on James on X.
Comments ranged from calling for him to be stripped of the captaincy to accusing him of supporting a “snake.”
Despite the criticism, others defended James, highlighting the toxicity within the fanbase.
One user remarked: “The reaction to this sums up individuals in this fanbase.”
The controversy comes as James continues his own battle with injury, having endured a series of hamstring issues.
Chelsea, however, have thrived in his absence under Enzo Maresca’s management, sitting near the top of the Premier League table ahead of Christmas.
