Netizens react as NPF lists insult as criminal offense

Netizens have reacted to the Nigeria Police, NPF listing insults and curses online as a criminal offence.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Abuja Headquarters, Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, had made this known in a statement via his verified handle on X on Friday.

He noted that raining direct curses online, constitutes cyber bullying, which according to him is defamation.

Raining direct curses on someone online is cyberbullying, not expression of freedom or criticism. And cyberbullying, which is even different from defamation, is a criminal offence and punishable. Be guided,” he stated.

Netizens have however, reacted to this new piece of information.

@General snow stated, “What part of the law says that?
Quote it let’s read it.”

Another X user, @trendwithola wrote, “Mr Ire óoo, you are misleading the public. Kindly cite the section in the constitution to substantiate it. Na your own opinion sha.”

@Ajebodanny stated, “Lmao what section of the law is this?

What you’re not going to do is twist the interpretation of the law so you can bully people.”
