Man United could be awarded 2017-18 EPL title amid City’s 115 FFP charges

Manchester United could be retroactively crowned Premier League champions for the 2017-18 season if Manchester City are found guilty of breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.

Recall the Premier League has charged City with 115 alleged FFP breaches, with the outcome of the hearing, expected in February 2025.

The verdict could lead to strict sanctions, including the stripping of titles.

Jose Mourinho, who managed United during the 2017/18 campaign, previously described finishing second behind City that season as one of his greatest managerial achievements.

United trailed City by 19 points that year, but allegations of financial misconduct could see City’s title revoked, potentially altering the history books.

Speaking at a press conference, Mourinho emphasized the need for justice in financial regulations.

“Small teams can sometimes be penalized by FFP when they exceed their limits by five-to-ten euros.

“I also suffered due to the limits when I was at Roma. All I want is justice,” Mourinho said, while denying any personal hatred issue with City manager Pep Guardiola.

City’s potential punishments, if found guilty, range from fines to points deductions, and even relegation.

Stripping titles is also on the table, making United’s possible claim to the 2017/18 trophy a significant prospect.
