Stranger who discovered Antonio after horror car crash reveals player’s first words
West Ham striker Michail Antonio is recovering in a London hospital after undergoing surgery for a lower limb fracture following a horrific car crash.
The 34-year-old had to be cut from his £260,000 Ferrari FF, which was left mangled after crashing into a tree in Theydon Bois, Essex, on Saturday.
Gistreel reported that Antonio was airlifted to the hospital following the accident and reportedly appeared dazed and disoriented at the scene.
Witness Samuel Woods, a passerby who first spotted the wreckage, told SunSport that the West Ham star was in a confused state.
According to Woods, Antonio asked, “Where am I? What’s going on? What car am I in?”
Woods, a carer who stumbled upon the scene after walking his dog in Epping Forest, initially thought the vehicle was abandoned but quickly realized someone was trapped inside.
Describing Antonio’s condition, Woods said, “I said to him, ‘hello’ to see if anyone was alive. He was so disoriented.
“I just said, ‘You’ve had an accident.’ He didn’t reply but looked around trying to make sense of what I said.”
Emergency services worked for nearly an hour to free Antonio, who was found in the passenger seat after the driver’s side bore the brunt of the crash.
Meanwhile, West Ham has since released a statement expressing gratitude to the emergency responders and support from the football community.
“Everyone at the club wishes Michail a speedy recovery… Our sincere gratitude to the emergency services and medical team who continue to aid him,” the statement read.
