Roy Keane doubtful of Manchester United’s top-four finish under Ruben Amorim
Manchester United’s Premier League campaign under new manager Ruben Amorim began with a lackluster 1-1 draw against struggling Ipswich Town.
This has birthed scathing criticism from club legend Roy Keane.
The Red Devils struck early at Portman Road, with Marcus Rashford finding the net just 81 seconds into the match.
The goal made Amorim the second Premier League manager in history to witness his team score within the first two minutes of their debut game.
However, United’s fire quickly waned, allowing Ipswich to dominate large spells of the game.
Omari Hutchinson’s superb strike leveled the match for Ipswich just before halftime, and the home side threatened to take all three points much later.
Goalkeeper Andre Onana saved United from further embarrassment with two crucial stops against Liam Delap.
Currently 12th in the league table, United have managed just four wins in 12 matches and sit eight points adrift of the Champions League spots.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Keane was blunt in his assessment.
“This team, for the last year or two, has been all about moments. The evidence isn’t there for them to push towards the top four.”
Keane lamented United’s lack of drive after Rashford’s early goal. “They just sat back.
“Ipswich are near the bottom—why not go after them?” he said, adding that Amorim faces a steep challenge in instilling confidence and quality in his squad.
United now turn their attention to a Europa League tie against Bodo/Glimt before hosting Everton in the league on Sunday.
