Federico Valverde reveals Arsenal dream before Real Madrid breakthrough
Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde has disclosed that he once dreamed of a future at Arsenal before the Premier League side passed on the opportunity to sign him.
Valverde, now 26, recalled his brief stint training with Arsenal as a 16-year-old while playing for Uruguayan club Peñarol.
The Uruguayan international felt an immediate connection to the club and its culture during his time at London Colney, but the Gunners opted not to secure his signature.
Speaking to Marca, Valverde shared his initial excitement:
“I said: ‘That’s it. This is my club. I’m going to grow here.’ In Uruguay, the Premier League was watched a lot. I imagined a future there. I enjoyed it and trained with spectacular players.”
Valverde expressed gratitude toward several Arsenal stars who welcomed him during his trial, including Emiliano Martinez, Héctor BellerÃn, Alexis Sánchez, and Santi Cazorla.
Two years after the rejection, Valverde joined Real Madrid, where he has flourished, amassing 275 appearances, 24 goals, and a collection of trophies under his belt.
