AFCON 2025Q: Inaki Williams withdraws from Ghana squad due to injury

Ghanaian forward Inaki Williams has withdrawn from the national team’s upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers due to a tendon injury.

Athletic Club, Williams’ La Liga side, notified the Ghana Football Association about the injury, which he sustained during training last week.

Williams, who missed Athletic Club’s recent draw against Real Valladolid, will remain in Bilbao to focus on recovery.

The Black Stars have agreed to let him skip the trip to Accra for further assessment, following a medical update from his club.

Ghana faces critical AFCON qualifiers against Angola and Niger, needing back-to-back wins to stay in contention for a place in the 2025 tournament in Morocco.

With a series of recent withdrawals from the squad, head coach Otto Addo will face added challenges in leading the team through these must-win matches.
