Europa League: ‘Could have scored more’ – Osimhen reacts after double vs Tottenham

Victor Osimhen’s first-half double lifted Galatasaray to the top of the Europa League group, as they edged out Tottenham 3-2 in Istanbul.

After the match, the Nigerian international said he could have “scored more,” having rued some chances.

The loss handed Spurs their first defeat of the European campaign and could see them drop out of the top eight depending on later results.

The home side opened the scoring just six minutes in, with Yunus Akgun’s stunning left-footed strike into the top corner following Archie Gray’s headed clearance.

Spurs soon equalized through Will Lankshear, who scored his first senior goal with a simple finish from a Brennan Johnson cross.

However, Galatasaray quickly regained the lead after capitalizing on a defensive error from Spurs’ Radu Dragusin, allowing Osimhen to slot home.

The Nigerian striker doubled his tally six minutes before halftime, finishing a cross from Dries Mertens past Fraser Forster to make it 3-1.

Things worsened for Spurs as Lankshear was sent off in the 60th minute after receiving a second yellow card for a late tackle on Gabriel Sara.

Despite being down to 10 men, Tottenham fought back, with substitute Dominic Solanke flicking Pedro Porro’s cross into the net in the 69th minute to narrow the gap.

Galatasaray held firm in the final stages to secure the win, handing them control of the group and leaving Spurs with work to do.
