Libya appeal CAF’s ruling awarding Super Eagles win in AFCON qualifier

The Libyan Football Federation (LFF) has lodged an appeal against the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF).

Recall CAF awarded Nigeria a 3-0 victory in their scheduled 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier with the Mediterranean Knights.

The ruling followed the cancellation of the Match Day 4 fixture, originally set for October 15 in Benina, due to disruptions affecting the Nigerian delegation.

According to Libyan news source Al Wasat, the LFF views the decision as unfair.

To contest the verdict, Libya has enlisted Tunisian lawyer Ali Abbas.

The Super Eagles faced disturbing obstacles when their flight was diverted and the team was stranded at an abandoned airport for 17 hours.

CAF, citing Libya’s failure to ensure proper logistics, awarded the game to Nigeria and imposed a $50,000 fine on the LFF, payable within 60 days.

The outcome of Libya’s appeal remains to be seen, as they seek to reverse the ruling in hopes of a rescheduled fixture.
