Court affirms Abure as Chairman of Labour Party

Mr. Julius Abure, the embattled national chairman of the Labour Party, has received judicial affirmation of his position after Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja validated his leadership.

It was reported that the court also validated the March 2024 national convention held in Nnewi, Anambra State, which reinstated the current national executive committee led by Abure.

Justice Nwite in his ruling also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to recognise the Abure leadership despite the absence of the Commission’s observers at the Nnewi convention.

This is a major political blow for Labour Party leader, Peter Obi who had given support for the emergence of the Senator Nenadi Usman national Caretaker Committee.

Peter Obi had stated that the embattled Abure was removed by the party’s constitution, as his tenure elapsed.

Obi, who was represented by his 2023 running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, gave the clarification at the inaugural meeting of the LP caretaker committee held in Abuja.
