Major clubs including Arsenal, Chelsea, to be dragged into City’s war vs Premier League

Manchester City’s ongoing legal dispute with the Premier League over financial regulations is expected to draw in rival clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea.

The case centers on rules governing commercial deals involving companies linked to club owners, with City winning a significant victory as part of those rules was deemed “unlawful.”

The ruling focused on shareholder loans not being included in the “Associated Party Transaction” (APT) calculations.

This decision could impact other clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, Brighton and Everton, all of whom have received significant financial backing from their owners in the form of loans.

For example, Arsenal’s owners, the Kroenkes, reportedly injected £260 million into the club, while Chelsea received £146 million under their new ownership, according to SunSport.

Brighton and Everton have even larger shareholder loans, which may now need recalculation under the revised rules.

The legal case has heightened tensions between Manchester City and the Premier League, with clubs like Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool providing evidence against City.

While City succeeded in challenging aspects of the APT rules, the Premier League claims that most of the rules remain intact.
