Alexander-Arnold addresses defensive criticism, praises Slot’s “harsh” coaching style
Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has hit back at the perception that his attacking strength overshadows his defensive abilities.
Labelling the criticism as “harsh,” the 25-year-old, who has evolved from right-back into a more versatile, quasi-midfielder role, acknowledged the scrutiny surrounding his defensive performances but argued his recent improvements.
“That perception was perhaps harsh,” Alexander-Arnold said, stating Liverpool’s strong defensive start to the season.
“We’ve had four out of five clean sheets. That is exceptional from a backline,” he added.
Part of his defensive growth, Alexander-Arnold revealed, stems from working closely with new Liverpool manager Arne Slot.
“We agreed that he will be harsh on me. Any time an attacker gets past me, he will call it out,” he explained.
