#EdoDecides2024: APC Governors begins prayer session as Edo election results pours in
A widely circulated video on Sunday showed a powerful moment of unity and prayer among several governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the situation room in Benin, Edo State.
As they awaited the announcement of the ongoing Edo State governorship election results, Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, led the prayer session.
He was joined by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, along with other prominent APC figures. The group paused for worship while the election results were gradually being released.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) started making public the final results of the Edo governorship election of 2024 on Sunday.
Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Monday Okpebholo of the APC, and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) were among the leading candidates.
Gistreel reports that Monday Okpebholo, the APC candidate, was winning the race with 244,549 votes from 16 local government areas as of the time this report was filled out, according to INEC’s tally.
The PDP’s Asue Ighodalo, his closest contender, obtained 195,954 votes, while Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party garnered 13,348 votes.
While the results from the 16 local government areas have been announced, INEC called for a three-hour break to await the final results from two remaining local governments.
Collation is expected to resume at 5 p.m. at INEC’s headquarters in Benin City.
The mood within the APC situation room was one of unity and hope, with governors and members praying together as they eagerly awaited the results of the closely fought election.
