#EdoDecides2024: Davido reveals real reason for demanding credible election
Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido explains his keen interest in the ongoing Edo State governorship election.
This follows reports of a large voter turnout across Edo State on Saturday 21st of September during the off-cycle gubernatorial election.
Davido has been actively calling out the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on X, accusing the body of malpractices during the election. His involvement led to questions, as many wondered why he was so invested in the Edo State election, given that he is not the state.
In response to the inquiries via his X handle, Davido clarified that his late mother, Imade Veronica Adeleke, hailed from Edo State.
He further added that beyond his personal connection through his mother, he feels obligated to be concerned as a Nigerian citizen.
Davido also pointed out that he had similarly criticized INEC during the Osun State gubernatorial election, in which his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, was a candidate.
“My mom is from Edo for those wondering why I’m interested in the election … but we as Nigerians should be concerned sha .. @inecnigeria shame on you I know how many times I had to come in here and rant before they got it right in Osun ! It’s really bad. God help us,” he stated.
