10-man Barcelona cruise to 4-1 win in Catalan derby against Girona
Barcelona maintained their perfect start to the 2024/25 season with a 4-1 win over Girona in the first Catalan derby of the season.
Despite being reduced to 10 men late in the game, Hansi Flick’s side made it six wins from six to maintain their lead at the top of La Liga.
The visitors broke the deadlock early in the 31st minute when Lamine Yamal broke through Girona’s defense to open the scoring with a clinical finish past Paulo Gazzaniga.
The 17-year-old starlet, struck again just six minutes later, pouncing on a rebound from Raphinha’s free-kick to double Barcelona’s lead.
Two minutes into the second half, Jules Kounde’s through ball found Dani Olmo, who finished from a tight angle to make it 3-0.
The Catalan giants extended their advantage further when Marc Casado sent Pedri through, and the midfielder coolly rounded the goalkeeper to score Barcelona’s fourth goal.
Meanwhile, Girona found a late consolation through Cristhian Stuani, and Ferran Torres was sent off for a rough challenge on Yaser Asprilla.
