Reactions have ensued as a woman who married herself files for a divorce after one year of self-marriage.

Sullen Carey, the 36-year-old Brazilian model and London-based social media influencer made the news after she announced that she was getting married to herself in a ceremony known as “sologamy,” which she shared with her large online following, sparking widespread media interest.

However, after one year of self-marriage, she has called it quits.

Carey’s decision to divorce herself came after attempting to salvage the relationship through solo couples therapy sessions.

She cited emotional exhaustion as one of the reasons for the divorce, “I was putting a lot of pressure on myself, which left me exhausted,” she lamented.

Despite finding the experience enriching, she’s ready for a new chapter and open to a traditional relationship.

She added:

“I realised my sologamous marriage was a healing process, but personal growth can lead us in different directions, I’ve decided it’s time to move on and open my heart to new possibilities, including finding a partner.”
