Nations League: Rice, Grealish shine as England beat Ireland in Carsley’s first game
England sealed off a 2-0 win over Ireland in their Nations League clash, thanks to first-half goals from Declan Rice and Jack Grealish.
The match, held at Lansdowne Road, marked Lee Carsley’s first game as England’s interim boss.
Rice opened the scoring with a fine finish, silencing the Irish fans who displayed a banner calling him and Grealish “snakes” for switching allegiance from Ireland to England.
The Arsenal midfielder later set up Grealish, whose composed finish doubled England’s lead.
Despite a heated atmosphere, including early scuffles involving Grealish and Jayson Molumby, England maintained control.
Ireland struggled to respond, with only a few half-chances threatening Jordan Pickford’s goal.
Carsley’s men dominated possession, and while the second half saw less actions, England’s strong first-half performance secured the needed win.
