Confirmed: Chelsea announce Jadon Sancho loan deal, but Manchester United face £50M loss

Chelsea have officially announced the loan signing of Jadon Sancho from Manchester United.

The deal has been finalized nearly 21 hours after the transfer window closed.

The move includes an obligation for Chelsea to purchase the winger for £23 million, which could see Manchester United incur a substantial £50 million loss on the player they initially signed for £73 million from Borussia Dortmund.

Sancho, 24, expressed his excitement about the move back to his hometown, London.

He said, “I’m really excited to be here. London is where I grew up and I’m happy to be back.

“The manager spoke to me about the project, and for a young player, it’s exciting. Hopefully, I can bring goals and assists to the Bridge.”

The obligation for Chelsea to buy Sancho will be triggered only if they finish above 14th place in the Premier League this season.

If that condition is met, Sancho will sign a long-term contract with the club.

Despite a challenging spell at Manchester United, where Sancho scored just 12 goals in 83 appearances, Chelsea’s management believes they can help the winger rediscover his best form.

His arrival comes after Chelsea secured the signings of Pedro Neto and Joao Felix in attacking roles and coincides with Raheem Sterling’s departure to Arsenal on a season-long loan.
