Arsenal sign Raheem Sterling in deadline-day loan from Chelsea
Arsenal made a deadline day move signing Raheem Sterling on a season-long loan from Chelsea, reuniting with Mikel Arteta.
The two previously worked together at Manchester City, where Arteta served as Pep Guardiola’s assistant, and Sterling flourished, scoring 53 goals under Arteta’s guidance.
Sterling, 29, expressed excitement about the move, stating, “Joining Arsenal is really an unbelievable feeling.
“I’m buzzing. This is a perfect fit for me! The journey the boys are on and the hunger in this team are something I’m eager to be part of.”
Arsenal’s sporting director, Edu, admitted that Sterling was not initially on the club’s radar this summer. However, when the opportunity came, the Gunners had to act.
“We never planned to sign him when we started the transfer window,” Edu revealed.
“But we always say to everyone that you have to be prepared for every scenario. He’s experienced, understands the league, and has won the Premier League multiple times. I’m confident he will add a lot to our squad.”
The deal sees Arsenal covering half of Sterling’s wages during his stint at the Emirates.
He is expected to make his debut in the highly anticipated North London derby against Tottenham after the international break.
