Gusto reveals Maresca’s halftime talk that inspired Chelsea’s 6-2 win over Wolves
Chelsea defender Malo Gusto has revealed the crucial halftime message from manager Enzo Maresca that spurred the team’s 6-2 win over Wolves.
After a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in their season opener, Chelsea struggled in the first half against Wolves, heading into the break with a 2-2 scoreline.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Gusto revealed that Maresca’s halftime talk was vital in turning the game around.
“We didn’t play perfectly because the first half was hard for us,” Gusto said. “The coach said to the team, we don’t have to play like children sometimes; we have to be more focused.”
Maresca’s words seemed to have resonated with the squad, as Chelsea came out in the second half with renewed energy, scoring four goals to secure an emphatic win.
The Italian manager later commented on his team’s performance, emphasizing the importance of consistency in their play.
“I want to see my team play the way we want to play and compete every game,” Maresca told GOAL. “This is the most important thing. I want to see a clear idea of what they want on the ball, and off the ball, a very aggressive approach.”
