Transfer: Chelsea make late bid for Brentford’s Ivan Toney
Chelsea have reportedly made a late move to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney as the transfer window nears close.
According to Sky Sports, the Blues have entered the race for the 28-year-old England international, who had been linked with a potential move to Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ahli.
Toney, who has been absent from Brentford’s squads for their opening league games this season, is now being targeted by Chelsea, who are in search of a proven No. 9 to bolster their attack.
Known for his goalscoring ability, Toney has netted 72 goals in 141 appearances for Brentford, including 36 in 85 Premier League games.
Brentford initially set a £70 million asking price for Toney, who has one year left on his contract at the Gtech Community Stadium.
However, recent reports suggest that this figure has been revised down to around £45 million, making a deal more feasible for Chelsea.
Chelsea’s interest in Toney stems from their need for a reliable striker after their pursuit of Napoli’s Victor Osimhen failed to materialize.
Toney is also reportedly keen on staying in England, which could further entice him to join Chelsea over a move to Saudi Arabia.
