Coach Christian Obi confirmed dead in Heartland FC ghastly accident

Heartland FC of Imo state were on Friday involved in a ghastly motor accident with head coach, Christian Obi confirmed dead.

The incident occurred near Umunna, close to Okigwe in Imo State, while the team was en route to Abakaliki for the Ifeanyi Ekwueme TICO/SELECT Pre-season Tournament.

The accident resulted in several players and officials sustaining different degrees of injury.

According to reports, they were quickly provided with first-aid treatment at a nearby facility.

However, the loss of Coach Obi, a former Nigeria youth international goalkeeper, cast a somber shadow over the team.

Obi, who was 57, had a distinguished career, including representing Nigeria in the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul.

“The accident happened at Umunna close to Okigwe still within Imo State,” Heartland FC revealed in a statement.

“The vehicle, in its attempt to dodge an oncoming vehicle, collided with another carelessly parked vehicle from another accident.”
