Arne Slot set to seal first Liverpool signing who won’t arrive until next season
Liverpool are close to sealing a deal to sign Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia for £34 million.
However, the 23-year-old will remain with Valencia for the 2024/25 season before joining the Reds in 2025, reports talkSPORT.
The move marks new manager Arne Slot’s first signing since taking over from Jürgen Klopp.
Although Mamardashvili won’t immediately bolster the squad at Anfield, Liverpool are said to be planning for the future.
The Georgian international is meant to serve as a potential long-term replacement for Alisson Becker.
GistReel Sport had reported that Mamardashvili, who impressed at Euro 2024 for Georgia, has established himself as Valencia’s first-choice goalkeeper since arriving on loan from FC Locomotive in 2021.
He has made 101 appearances for the club and holds the record for the most consecutive league starts – 69, since the 2022/23 season.
