Ronaldo sets new record with first goal of season for Al Nassr
Cristiano Ronaldo has added to his illustrious career, scoring in his 23rd consecutive season as a footballer.
The Portuguese forward delivered a goal and an assist in Al-Nassr’s 2-0 win over Al-Taawoun in the Saudi Super Cup semi-final.
Ronaldo, who recently returned from a disappointing Euro 2024 campaign with Portugal, wasted no time in making his presence felt in the game.
He set up Ayman Yahya for the opening goal in the eighth minute, flicking on a pass after Sadio Mané’s run down the left flank.
The early goal helped Al-Nassr, who maintained pressing throughout the match.
Despite some attempts by Al-Taawoun to level the score, Al-Nassr’s goalkeeper, Bento, made crucial saves to keep them off.
Ronaldo’s influence was evident again as he assisted Mané, only for the Senegalese striker to be denied by Al-Taawoun’s goalkeeper, Mailson Santos.
Ronaldo then found the back of the net himself in the 57th minute, finishing off a move initiated by Yahya and right-back Sultan Al-Ghannam.
Although he came close to doubling his tally later in the match, the crossbar prevented him from scoring a second goal.
With the win, Ronaldo eyes another silverware with Al-Nassr, adding to his Arab Club Champions Cup title in 2023.
The Knights of Najd will face Al-Hilal in the Saudi Super Cup final on August 17.
